RWE Data Analyst & Epidemiologist, CDC contractor

Arshiya Patel MPH, CPH

I study how healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance can be prevented, using large claims, EHR, and surveillance datasets. With a pharmacy degree and an MPH in epidemiology, I design studies, link data sources, and program the analyses behind evidence that CDC and its partners act on.

Current role

Scientific Data Analyst, Contractor

Chenega Professional Services, supporting CDC's Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion (DHQP), Epidemiology Research and Innovations Branch · Atlanta, GA · June 2022 to present

I design and deliver research on preventing healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance across acute and non-acute care settings. That work runs from feasibility checks on Truveta, PointClickCare, and MarketScan, through protocols and statistical analysis plans, to linking surveillance data with Medicare claims and programming the analyses in SAS and R: propensity scores, survival models, GEE, and test-negative designs.

I also manage the governance behind each study (IRB, data use agreements, CMS ResDAC) and am my team's Truveta subject-matter expert. I learned Truveta Studio and its Prose language within about three months of early access and have since trained more than five colleagues to work in it independently.

How I got here

I started in pharmacy, testing antimicrobial drug-loaded wound dressings at the University of Tartu, and moved into public health from there: an MPH in epidemiology, Hepatitis C research at Tampa General Hospital, COVID-19 field epidemiology at the Florida Department of Health, vaccine trial data at Emory, and since 2022, HAI and antimicrobial resistance research in support of CDC.
